Despite Achriman's confidence Sam killed the beast, reunited with his team and found what they were looking for: the location of the Holy Grail in Carcassone, France. After his minions were all eliminated, Achriman summoned a colossal Swamp Hive to kill Sam and disappeared with a laughter. He then sent a few hordes of his minions after Sam and watched him fight, while further trying to demotivate Sam. Achriman was amused by Sam's threats and noted that it is humanity's unwavering confidence in the victory of the underdog that makes conquering Earth so entertaining. Sam and Rodriguez split up to search for them seperately with Sam travelling through some ancient ruins and to the Colosseum, where Achriman greeted him with a slow applause. Meanwhile, Sam Stone and his friends on the Alien Artifact Acquisition team of the Earth Defense Force were present in Rome, Italy to try and find the legendary Holy Grail, actually an alien relic said to have the power to heal the wounds of the world, which would be a valuable asset in the fight against Mental.Īfter the AAA team cleared the airspace above Rome of Octanian Raiders and a Harvester Leviathan by forcefully erupting Mount Vesuvius on General Brand's orders, Sam and his close friend Rodriguez returned to Rome to regroup with their comrades and get to the Vatican, said to hide the location of the Holy Grail. While his troops were busy slaughtering the resistance and the harvester drones snatched up any defenseless humans for transport to the Leviathans, Achriman had Octanian propaganda drones broadcast his messages all across Europe, meant to encourage immediate surrender and demonstrate his intellectual superiority.
He devised a plan to use the Harvester Leviathans of the allied Cult of the Eightfold Manifestation to convert the human populace into mindless berserkers that attack anything they are pointed at, a process that involves surgically removing pieces of their brains and replaced by cyber-parasites.Ī propaganda drone broadcasting a message from Lord Achriman. Among them were the Witch-Brides of Achriman, which Sam first encountered on the desert planet Pladeon and remained a constant threat until the end of the war.ĭespite humanity's best efforts to fight off Mental's Horde, eventually only Earth remained and Lord Achriman himself was placed in charge of directing its invasion. Mental's forces were still stretched out across the known cosmos, but it also meant that he still had access to all of his most powerful servants. During the first period of the so-called "Mental War" Sam led a desperate attempt at resisting Mental from the Battlecruiser Saratoga even as the Earth Defense Force already started to crumble under the pressure. When Captain Sam "Serious" Stone accidentally reawakened Mental and started the next cycle of destruction, Achriman and the other generals destroyed every colony humanity had. Throughout the eons Achriman conquered many worlds in the name of the One Infinite, either enslaving the local intelligent lifeforms or exterminating them entirely. At some point, he was found by or discovered the existence of god of destruction Tah-Um, joining his legions and becoming one of his generals and his chief propagandist. Lord Achriman was a powerful sorcerer that ruled the Shadow Plane. He is not above petty acts of cruelty either, as he murders young rookie Kenny in front of Sam Stone specifically to make him suffer. Despite his seeming devotion however, all Achriman truly cares about is the power that being one of Mental's generals grants him over others. In addition, Achriman is an incredibly sadistic individual who delights in deconstructing every single value that those he considers beneath him hold dear (read: everyone that isn't Mental), preaching the abandonment of hope and resistance in favor of eternal commitment to the One Infinite.
One of his most devious feats was the deception of the sorceresses of the Great Council, who entered a deal with him to fight off Mental only to be corrupted by Achriman's dark magic and turned into his Witch-Brides. Achriman is a highly intelligent and cunning strategist, having successfully conquered thousands of worlds in the name of his master.
